Wonderfully tasty recipes! March 2, 2010 S. Arnott (Guelph, Ont. Canada) Having seen this book along with an interview with Alicia Silverstone on Oprah, I decided to buy the book.
We eat very healthfully and mindfully but we do eat meat, chicken, fish etc.
Alicias wisdom when it comes to healthy nourishment of the body is awesome. I learned a lot as well as benefited from the wonderful advice and recipes. I highly reccomend this book not only for those who want to eat better while considering our planet...but also for those, like me, who are concerned about the earth and also want to 'fine tune' and optimise their nutrition.
Well done Alicia.....I will look for your next book!
Recipes are so Vague February 24, 2010 Jan Vandermeer (canada) This is far from what I expected it to be. Although the recipes are Vegan, there are so many ingredients that I've never heard of and are not available where I live. None of the recipes seemed satisfying or filling. Truly Disappointed.
A nice idea, but lost of false info in this book February 7, 2010 J. Noble (Toronto, ON) 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
The recipes are not bad, and the book is easy to follow, but some of the health information in the book is based more in what you might read on the Internet than what is scientifically true. I'm a vegetarian, so I support her purpose, but I'm also a scientist so I cringe when reading something that is essentially a rumour or, pardon the phrase, "old wive's tale".
I hope she gets a scientific reviewer to examine the book before a second edition comes out.
Will make anyone want to go vegan! January 29, 2010 C. Higgins (Edmonton, CA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have read this book and now tried a number of recipes. It is well written and explains things in a very simplistic way, but seems to have some research to back it up.
The recipes in this book are really, really good. Many of them will call for expensive ingredients, especially with sweeteners since Alicia does not use processed sugars. That being said, I highly reccomend!
There is a website with a forum linked to this book that is also really useful. I have yet to try something that has not been awesome.
Inspirational book! January 5, 2010 Jessica Young 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
The book is fun yet informative. Purely inspirational. If you're thinking of making the leap to vegan or just exploring what a plant-based diet is, this is the book for you. Beautiful photos and wonderful references with a great online community.
